About Barbara Macfarlane

Barbara Macfarlane, owner of Marczyk Fine Foods, is always happy when she gets asked to talk about a favorite wine or spirit. "So many wines, so little time. So like our customers, I depend on the crew to tell me what's new, delicious, and noteworthy. It's true, I get stuck on faves, but the new wines coming in the door are so well chosen! So drink up Denver, we've been doing this for 20 years and we know what's cool!"

What Are We Drinking Now? Sottimano Bric del Salto Dolcetto d’Alba

If you know, you know: We just received our exclusive allocation of Sottimano Dolcetto 2020. And Barbara is enamored with it. Sottimano Bric del Salto Dolcetto d'Alba Andrea Sottimano is one of the best winemakers in Italy — full stop. We have sourced and sold his wines for 20 years, and we even have Denver-exclusive access to a couple of sleeper-beauties. One of these is his Bric del Salto Dolcetto. While Andrea is most famous for his expressions of Nebbiolo through his Barbarescos, he and his family own vineyards planted to Dolcetto and Brachetto as well. Dolcetto is not [...]

What Are We Drinking Now? Château d’Aqueria Tavel Rosé

Barbara has a Rhône rosé for us, but rosé season is over. Or is it? Château d'Aqueria Tavel Rosé - Rhône Valley, France Now, you may ask yourself, why is there a rosé being featured as we move into cooler weather? Because there is such a thing as a fall rosé. This luscious Rhône rosé is dry and super food-friendly: think mushroom risotto, roasted pork, or Marczyk Fine Foods's house-made French sausages. It's weighty and concentrated yet always invigorating, packed with crisp-tart blackberry and black-cherry flavors. At a Friends & Family price of $24.99 for this rosé, you should [...]

What Are We Drinking Now? Anselmi “San Vincenzo” Bianco

Barbara is adoring this Garganega, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc blend from Italy. Anselmi "San Vincenzo" Bianco - Veneto, Italy To call this a September Wine of the Month is an understatement! When we took our first sip, as the cool evening air drifted in on the breeze, it was all the things we love about summer — and fall. Rich and delicious, Sauvignon without the bite, Chardonnay without the cloying, and Garganega to round it all out. It's neither season and both. What Are We Drinking Now? La Bambina Rosato from Menfi, Sicily

Barbara is loving this rosé from Menfi, Sicily. This is summer wine! Almost an orange tint; subtle strawberry and peaches; a great food wine. Thank you, Marilena! La Bambina, from winemaker Marilena Barbera, is a pleasant expression of the Nero d'Avola grape (ever heard of that one?), which is harvested at night to preserve the freshest aromas and to give birth to a very exciting wine that reflects the personality of Menfi's terroir. How do you gazpacho? I'm gazpachoing with fried Serrano ham, shrimp, avocado, and olive oil. And, of course, a glass or three of La Bambina. [...]

What Are We Drinking Now? Mythology Botanical Gin from Denver, CO (that’s pretty close by!)

Mythology makes this botanical gin, but the exquisite flavor is anything but mythological. Time to batch out a giant g&t and go look at some plants. For those unaware, our beloved Denver Botanic Gardens is back open, and this timely collaboration with Mythology uses ingredients grown inside the gates. This gin is fresh and zesty, with mild peppercorn and bright citrus. My next move is to see how it stands up in a martini, but i think it's a fair presumption that a beautiful thing awaits. This summer release is available for a limited time, so why are [...]
