Our Potentially Haunted Wines of the Month for October

Most people go their whole lives without getting a photo of Sasquatch. We ventured out to photograph our October Wines of the Month and just happened to capture a Sasquatch in every photo. We don’t know if the wines themselves attracted the Sasquatches, but we do know that you will thoroughly embrace these eight wines as fall progresses into a chillier rhythm.

Finca Bacara
Monastrell
Jumilla, Spain

Spooky, smooth & spectacular.
Time Waits For No One (we don’t know who Tom Waits waits for) is our answer to October’s spooky, chilly, breezy dark season. 100% Monastrell — we’re talking dark fruits, powerful tannins and body, intense aromas, and a smooth finish. This is your fall roasted meat wine.

Pairings: beef stew, bison chili, English cheddar cheese, bacon cheese burgers, lamb kebabs, slow-roasted bbq pork tacos, stuffed mushrooms, grilled Niman Ranch ribeyes

The Wolftrap
Red Blend
Western Cape, South Africa

Rich and ripe!
Up front this full-bodied beauty is full of rich, ripe dark fruit, followed by hints of spices (like clove and cardamon), cranberries, and black pepper. It has big, silky tannins with a vibrant acidity, and there’s a touch of oak followed by a slightly savory finish. Great for a chilly fall evening!

Pairings: beef stew, chili, bold ripe cheeses, grilled meats and vegetables, lamb, slow-roasted bbq pork

Chateau Lubat
Graves Blanc
Graves, Bordeaux, France

Well-balanced and expressive!
The gravel-rich soils in Graves make ideal places for growing wine grapes. Dry whites from this subregion of Bordeaux (like this Graves Blanc) are usually made from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon — they are powerful, round, and complex. You’ll find notes of grapefruit, passionfruit, minerals, white flowers, and juniper.

Pairings: rich seafood dishes, raw oysters, risottos, blanquette de veau (old fashioned veal stew), goat cheeses, blue cheese, poultry

$17.99/btl
• 3 bottles: $17.09/btl
• 6 bottles: $16.19/btl

Bernabeleva
Navaherreros Tinto & Blanco
Sierra de Los Gredos, Spain

TINTO: The daintier side of Spanish reds.
This dominant Garnacha blend wows us in every way. High altitudes and age-old vines untouched by pesticides bring major aromatics, lift and energy. Cherry, spice and flowers abound. Organic and natural.

Pairings: Korean bbq tacos, sloppy joe sliders, pizza, beef bolognese, Italian sausage from Marczyk Fine Foods, stuffed mushrooms, grilled bbq tofu, pan con tomate, taco salad

BLANCO: A unique white from high altitude Spain.
She’s no typical Spanish white! This blend of Albillo, Macabeo, Moscatel and Grenache Blanc is lively and zesty while also boasting some round texture — honey, wildflowers, citrus, and stone fruit. Organic and natural.

Pairings: chicken cacciatore, lobster rolls, leek risotto, clam pasta, Marczyk’s French sausage, salty Manchego, French fries & kewpie mayo, white pizza, white anchovies

Elvio Tintero
Vino Rosso
Piemonte, Italy

Mouthwateringly irresistible!
This is a lively, elegant and luscious blend of Barbera, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, and Cabernet. It’s dry, juicy, and has a tingly brightness to it that almost feels like there are playful little bubbles. Charming notes of brambly fruit, plum, tart black cherry, tobacco, licorice, and pepper. Great with a subtle chill.

Pairings: olives, antipasti, risottos, tomato-based dishes, sausages, Parmesan, eggplant, pizza…

This is not your stereotypical Lambrusco.
This Lambrusco is absolutely stunning. It has a gorgeous, ruby-red color that glistens in the light, drawing you into a tantalizingly aromatic nose of violets. It’s light and crisp with a savory dry finish. Gentle notes of sour cherry, fig, hibiscus, and raspberry with a very soft touch of tannins. Natural.
