Leopold Bros Three Chamber Rye Whiskey Holiday Edition
First, some history:
For more than a century, American Rye Whiskey was almost exclusively produced in what was knows as a Three Chamber Still — a still that extracted not only distillate but, more importantly, unlocked oils and aromas hidden in the grains. The result was marketed as “heavy-bodied” — whiskey with complex flavors and a viscous finish. The last Three Chamber Still was destroyed just after World War II, thus ending a time-honored American tradition.
Back to the present:
This Rye Whiskey…
…is the result of over 15 years of research. Todd and Scott Leopold re-engineered a Three Chamber Still from old manuscripts. They worked with local farmers to grow the heritage Abruzzi rye used by pre-Prohibition distillers. They brought a departed American tradition back to life. All right here in Denver.

They commission the heirloom rye grown in Colorado; they malt it themselves; they mash and ferment it with their proprietary, wild micro flora; they distill it in a one-of-a-kind pre-Prohibition-style three-chamber still of their own heavily researched design; they age it in proprietary casks in a warehouse of their own design with dirt floors and no heating or cooling; then they bottle, label, and box it all themselves.
Yeah, it’s special.
This is an extremely limited production — Marczyk Fine Wines received 30 bottles. If there’s a better gift for a whiskey lover, we don’t know what it is.
