What Are We Drinking Now? Sineann 2019 Pinot Noir & Deutschherren-Hof Pinot Noir

Kerry has two Pinot Noirs with very different personalities.

Embracing Noir-vember, I tested pairing ideas with two gorgeous Pinot Noirs for an upcoming Friendsgiving dinner. Spanning both old and new worlds, I tried our Oregon Pinot from Sineann and the German Pinot from Deutschherren-Hof. I loved them both, for different reasons, realizing we have a Pinot for every palate! Wines often create an impression of “personality” in my mind, sometimes becoming a recognizable character.

The Debutante: Sineann 2019 Pinot Noir

Tart and bright, this wine boasts aromas and flavors of vibrant red and black berries. It’s incredibly balanced with earthy notes, hints of cocoa, subtle tannins, and a long finish. This elegant Pinot is bold enough to make a statement, yet subtle enough to pair well with a variety of foods. Try it with roasted vegetables, nutty Gruyere cheese, hearty-styled fish like grilled salmon, and of course all manner of poultry.

The Silver Fox: Deutschherren-hof 2015 Pinot Noir

This garnet-hued gem wears its age well! Aromas of cranberries, dried cherries, and worn leather give way to a restrained palate of red fruit, gamey undertones, refreshing acidity, and an alluring spiciness. Pair this wine with venison, rabbit, quail, and of course duck. Both Pinots worked well with my test pairings of roasted duck, pheasant-rosemary pâté, and Tuscan salami with fennel.

About the Author:

Kerry’s passion for wine was ignited when she went back to school to pursue a culinary degree and studied abroad in Florence Italy. Armed with scholarships from the James Beard Foundation, Kerry went on to earn a master’s degree in Wine Management from the Culinary Institute of America’s Napa Valley campus. A year later in 2019, she was hired as a Food and Beverage Manager-in-Training at The Little Nell in Aspen, CO. Kerry has since switched her focus to wine retail with the goal of completing the rigorous certification for the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Diploma program on her way to becoming a certified wine educator.
