Forget New Zealand, Spain, and Cali; Kevin is opting for Loire Valley Sauv Blancs.
Domaine Bardin Pouilly Fumé – Loire Valley, France
Sauvignon Blanc has become one of the most popular wines out there. Beautiful examples come from all over — New Zealand, Spain, California — but my personal favorites hail from the Loire Valley. You may be familiar with Sancerre, the most famous Sauvignon Blanc from the region. Pouilly Fumé is yet another stunning example of how amazing Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc can be.
The Cedrick Bardin Pouilly Fumé is fairly typical, combining ripe fruitiness with crisp freshness. Aromas of mandarin orange and grapefruit practically smack you in the face. As the wine warms a bit, a subtle hint of bergamot integrates nicely with the citrus. The finish is dry and dominated by a pleasing minerality.
A great pairing with fish, goat cheese, and perfect for spicy Asian food.
Domaine Bardin is practicing organic.
