What Are We Drinking Now? Les Vignobles Foncalieu

Piquepoul has been one of Marshall’s favorite wines, but this Piquepoul is something special.

Les Vignobles Foncalieu – Languedoc, France

For years Piquepoul has been one of my go-to summer wines, so when I saw Foncalieu’s Piquepoul Noir Rosé hit our shelves, I knew I had to try it. Gleefully I took a bottle home and let it chill while I prepped dinner, and opened it when it was about twenty degrees below room temperature. I unscrewed the cap and poured a glass. The results did not remotely disappoint.

The wine immediately drew me in with scents of rain water, peaches, and rose. My first impression on tasting it was fresh grapefruit, which gave way to sea spray and a crisp, steely minerality that was delightfully refreshing on a hot day. I paired the bottle with a plate of cheese and a fresh baguette from Marczyk Fine Foods — the result was a gorgeous marriage of flavors. Definitely be sure to pick this up before it’s gone.
