What Are We Drinking Now That There’s Sunshine? Biokult Grüner Veltliner

Bob has a wonderful asparagus wine for you.

Biokult Grüner Veltliner

By “asparagus wine” we don’t mean it’s made from fermented asparagus; rather, it pairs well with asparagus. Grüner Veltliner — or Groovy, as some of the cool cats have been calling it for a few years — is pretty Groovy to drink. You don’t have to have a disco ball, wear bell bottoms, and have the Bee Gees playing in the background to be Groovy here, although that could be a fun night, too. Especially if you have the wine.

The great thing about Grüner, other than being pretty groovy, is its versatility. It is dry, bracingly crisp, and super food-friendly. It pairs well with just about everything, from cheese to veggies to pork, chicken, fish, and especially with hard-to-pair foods like artichokes and asparagus.

Speaking of asparagus, be on the lookout this week for Kiowa Organics asparagus in the markets. The freshest you can get. Harvested the day they deliver it to us. And other sentence fragments.

Did I mention that Grüner goes well with asparagus?

Sorry for the rambling sidebar there. I grew up in the 70’s and may or may not have sampled something back then.
