What Are We Drinking Now? Gilles Gelin Fleurie

Did you miss Beaujolais Day, too? Don’t fret. Heidi has just the thing for you.

GILLES GELIN FLEURIE

We have plenty of Gamay to take us all through New Year’s Day. And this is no basic Beaujolais.

Gilles Gelin, fourth generation vintner, grows his grapes organically from the esteemed cru, Fleurie. This region is not only recognized for its delicate floral and mineral features, but also its age-worthy complexity.

Dark crimson in the glass, the 2016 vintage has a bouquet of dried cherries and currants, with notes of cedar and clove. Soft and lush to the taste, this red wine shows layers of fresh fig and red fruit, finishing bright with a hint of apricot.

So stay home and celebrate the season with this Fleurie. She’s great company on her own or will complement your favorite winter dish.
